In July this year, Booking.com claimed to have become the leader in alternative accommodation listings, with more than 5 million homes, apartments, and other non-hotel lodgings available to book on its platform.

Now its Thailand-based OTA Agoda is offering additional discounts “to celebrate the launch of Agoda Homes”, saying that non-hotel bookings are growing 30-40% faster traditional hotels, and is increasing the range of alternative accommodations among its 1.8 million listings with a tab for a separate rentals-only search. Expedia is also focusing on HomeAway to increase its portfolio.

Both Booking.com and Agoda Homes offer a best-price guarantee for both hotels and alternative lodgings, setting them apart from the other leading players such as Airbnb.
