Figures out today show that overseas visitors spent £2.8 billion in August, up 3% on the same month last year, making August the highest month ever for overseas visitor spending in the UK.
Inbound visits also hit a record high for the UK, with 3.9 million visits in August, up 5% on the same month in 2016.
There was particularly strong growth in visits from the EU, the UK’s largest visit-generating region, up 6% at 2.4 million.
Today’s ONS figures bring the total number of overseas visits to the UK for the first eight months of the year to 27.1 million, up 8% on 2016. Tourist spending rose 10% during this period at a record £16.4 billion.
