According to Skift, the story this year with the biggest implications for online travel was Airbnb exceeding Expedia in booked nights during the first three months of 2019, which saw Airbnb selling 91 million room nights, compares with Expedia’s 80.8 million.

Booking Holdings still sold most, with 217 million room nights booked that quarter, and still heads the list of biggest OTAs, followed by China’s Trip.com Group, Expedia Group, and TripAdvisor. However Airbnb is certainly rising in influence, while Google is also a winner in terms of advertising revenue from Booking Holdings, Expedia Group, and Airbnb alone.
