Reports say that several Airbnb account holders have been charged for non-refundable reservations at fake properties, for reservations they didn’t make, and the rental accounts are immediately deleted afterwards.

In some cases the victim’s Airbnb account is also deleted by hackers and their phone number changed. One user’s credit card was $1,500 for three fake bookings and her account was deleted, making it hard to contact customer service.

Airbnb has been criticised by many users for its lack of response, but explains users’ accounts were accessed with correct login credentials that were “compromised elsewhere” and that it is working with the victims.
