Airbnb has announced a new corporate governance strategy which puts safety, sustainability, diversity and accountability at the fore.

It says it will guest safety incidents, verify its seven million listings by the end of this year, measure its global carbon footprint and enhance diversity among its workforce.

A new Stakeholder Committee will be added to the board, and staff bonuses will be directly linked to safety of guests, with progress reported at a Stakeholder Day open to guests, hosts, employees and investors.

This happens at a time the company faces backlash over fraudulent listings, deaths in unruly properties and reports that Airbnb employees focusing on safety including enforcing compliance with regulation were overruled by company executives.
