Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia has outlined plans to consolidate the international travel market during his first trip to Australia – where one in five people is signed-up to his business.

In an interview in Sydney, he discussed Airbnb lending money to home buyers who promise to make a room available for rent on Airbnb for up to three years; stopping the need for 25 hours and 10 apps to plan a trip across flights, cars, accommodation and payments and bringing it all into one; the launch of “experiences” connecting travellers with locals who offer activities such as walking tours; and the backlash from some apartment residents leading to regulation.

All this is in the face of Airbnb adoption slowing in the face of growing awareness, and issues around privacy/security as barriers to adoption.
