Airbnb has announced at the Triptease Direct Booking Summit, that it is serious about offering hotels an alternative distribution channel to the global OTAs, as they seem ‘ hooked’ on booking.com and Expedia like a drug they cannot shake.

Airbnb is formally moving into the hotel sector, categorising listings in ‘collections’ to reflect the different styles of property available on its site, with boutique hotels in a new category, and is keen to work directly with the sector to find what kind of pricing model works for smaller independent hotels.
