In an effort to curb party houses in Airbnb properties, which have led to local disturbances and even deaths in properties, the company is promoting new surveillance devices at a low cost, hoping that hosts will install them in their rented space.

It is promoting three levels of devices costing from $109, the basic noise-detecting “Minut”, the more sensitive “NoiseAware” and the “Roomonitor”. All three detect sound but cannot record.

Some guests are already saying they would not stay anywhere these devices are present over concerns around privacy.
