A man who illegally rented out his central London council flat on Airbnb has been fined £100,974 in unlawful profits, and evicted.

Airbnb removed the property from its website earlier this year in line with city regulations, and Westminster Council is investigating at least 1,500 properties in the borough for short-term letting.

Residential Landlords generally don’t allow sub-letting in this way as it implies the need for a Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence and adequate insurances. There are currently more than 80,000 listings on Airbnb in London.
