The secretary-general of the UNWTO, Dr Taleb Rafai, has put his name to a blog post Sustainable Tourism in the 21st Century, jointly attributed to Christopher Lehane, global head of policy and public affairs at Airbnb.

The post says that “Airbnb’s technology-enabled, people-to-people home sharing has great potential to support households in emerging destinations by helping to cover the costs of everyday expenses, education and entrepreneurship.”

It also says that by 2030, “Airbnb expects that more than 400 million guests will have used the platform to arrive in developing countries since its founding in 2008.”

Reports show that in India, 78% of people with access to internet are willing to share their assets or services online for financial gain, significantly higher than the 43% of North Americans.
