Thousands of Airbnb hosts across the globe are coping with lost income, since Airbnb has expanded its extenuating circumstances policy, enabling almost all travellers to cancel reservations penalty-free with full refunds.

Cancellation policies are set by the host, from flexible to super strict, but the company can override this which is how many Covid-19-related cancellations may qualify for refunds. The opportunity to cancel may be triggered automatically by email, or guests can apply online.

Following the latest tranche of travel restrictions, Airbnb has extended the area covered by the extenuating circumstances policy global. Reservations made before March 14th, with check-in dates from March 14th for a month, will be covered, including Airbnb Experiences.

Standard cancellation will still apply in China.
