Airbnb rival Wimdu, which formed part of Wyndham Worldwide’s portfolio for a while, was Europe’s most well-funded short-term rental search platform with 400 employees at its height. Now it has announced it will close by the end of this year due to “significant financial and business challenges”, with future bookings in 2018 to be honoured.

It had previously raised more than $90 million in funding.

Rival price-comparison aggregator HomeToGo also raised Series C funding this year, and is now Europe’s best-funded and fastest growing startups in the vacation rental search industry.
