Airbnb reached a modest $100 million in cash-flow profitability in 2017, its first, and has announced the appointment of retiring American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault to its board.

This seems to be the start of transforming Airbnb into a “21st century company”, including a potential rollout of a loyalty program and commitment to an eventual IPO.

Chenault has been one of the longest-serving black CEOs of a major corporation, and in an industry often dominated by white male chief executives, Airbnb is also demonstrating its commitment to diversity in leadership. His last day as CEO of American Express is February 1, and Facebook recently appointed him to its own board as well.
