The annual hotel pipeline survey by W Hospitality Group shows that Marriott International currently tops the table for Africa, with a development pipeline of 93 new hotels, totalling 17,708 rooms – almost half already under construction – across the continent.
The Hilton chain is next with 6,352 rooms under construction, Radisson third with 4,840. Radisson Blu tops the list for individual hotel brands, beating the Hilton brand by over 300 rooms under construction.
Year-on-year performance for Africa shows growth at 13.5% growth in 2018 and the overall pipeline for chains looks healthy, although fewer are in construction than originally stated.
The full report will be discussed at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Nairobi in October.
