ABTA has revealed that the contribution to the UK economy from outbound travel, including direct spend on holidays and associated products such as duty-free, cameras and suntan protection, has increased by a third since 2014, and now stands at £37.1 billion or 1.8% of GDP. It stood at £27.1 billion in 2014.

The UK travel industry directly employs 221,000 jobs and supports a further 526,000, both up considerably since 2014.

The Driving Growth – the economic value of outbound travel report also finds travellers now spend more in the UK before they go than when they’re away.
