ABTA is again urging government ministers to take immediate action to prevent catastrophic damage to the UK travel industry in light of the pandemic.

Among other things agents are waiting for refunds from hotels and airlines without which they cannot afford to refund customers for their own cancellations.

ABTA is proposing temporary amendments to the package travel regulations including extending the 14-day window for refund payments to four-months, that government should confirm the ongoing protection of refund credits, and that where suppliers cannot or will not refund tour operators, there should be emergency government help to fulfil refund payments. It is also encouraging government not to take risks in the aviation sector.
