Taxi-hailing app Uber has announced plans to introduce a flying taxi service, initially in Dallas and Dubai, in three years, featuring electric vehicles capable of vertical take-off and landing.

App users will be able to book a ride at the push of a mobile phone button to use the urban air network to navigate busy cities while avoiding congested streets.

The company was forced to suspend its self-driving car programme last month after a crash involving one of its vehicles in Arizona.
