The co-founder of tech-focused Indian budget hotel chain Treebo Hotels discusses the impact on the industry of rising incomes, lifestyle changes and digitisation prompting more middle-class consumers to travel.

70% of projected industry growth in Indian hospitality is in the budget segment, so the chain is focusing on customer experience, building a strong brand, and the creation of value for partners across its hotels and serviced apartments. The chain has grown quickly from 70 hotels within a fairly limited footprint to the current 45 cities with 250 partner hotels and an inventory of 6,000 rooms. The target by the end of 2017 is 600 properties, 1,200-1,300 in 2018, with an average property size of 23-24 rooms.
