Most extended stay business travellers prefer to book their own accommodation, but generally aren’t yet turning to the sharing economy or serviced rentals.
A recent GBTA survey of travel buyers and managers found that while many business travellers prefer the amenities of an apartment, 70% still end up staying in a traditional hotel and 80% in extended stay hotels for long periods, and not in serviced apartments or shared rentals. This is unsurprising as many corporate travel policies only offer hotel options.
Half of respondents mentioned serviced apartments, with 18% mentioning sharing economy-based rentals like Airbnb, Flipkey and HomeAway.
However, the report also showed that business travellers do prefer having a kitchen, and 20% of US-based international business travelers polled said they like serviced apartments because they travel with their family.
