More than 135 million Chinese are projected to travel abroad this year from the world’s largest outbound travel market, and while they have traditionally travelled in tour groups, more Chinese tourists are planning trips themselves independently either now or in the future.

While around 25% of travellers polled recently said they would travel as part of a tour group, 17% said they’d make all arrangements for their next trip on their own with no tour guide, 18% said they would make their own arrangements but hire a local guide, and 35%  said they’d buy a travel package but travel independently

Independent Chinese travel in the United States is also growing.
