The GBTA Convention 2017 had the theme of “convergence,” and led to discussion about technology advancing many aspects of corporate travel such as booking and tracking.

However this article considers the fact that travel management companies are biased towards certain options because they stand to make money from particular outcomes, even if they purport to be working in the best interests of both client and traveller. Travel management companies often make money out of both sides of a transaction, in fees and commissions, so this article suggests the needs of the traveller and the needs of their travel management company aren’t truly aligned, and asks will business travelers ever be able to get what they want instead of what they need?
