Perth Council’s recent Town Planning Scheme allowed unlimited building heights in the Mill Point area, but a rush of interest from property developers forced the council to bring back height limits.
Meanwhile approvals completed for multiple towers of up to 38 storeys, including the 29-storey $60m Lumiere tower. This approval was overturned, as the building did not meet a 50-50 residential-commercial mix, so 147 serviced apartments were added to the now 44-storey design.
Final approval has been given for a compromise 34-storey version despite opposition from residents over the small amount of “commercial” space, and by South Perth Council over the height. Lumiere was 60% within three weeks of its launch, highlighting demand for high-end apartments in Perth.
