The minimum rental period for private residential properties in Singapore has been reduced from six months, as implemented in June 2009, to three months, with immediate effect. This is mainly to accommodate visiting academics and students, and professionals on work assignments, looking for a medium-length home stay.

Short-term rentals of less than three concurrent months are still not allowed, including those arranged via online platforms like Airbnb, but serviced apartments and hotels will continue to serve to the needs of those requiring short rentals.
