This week’s Serviced Apartment Summit Europe in London on 12/13 July hosted a number of interesting discussion sessions, including occupancy and RevPAR across the sector, presented by STR Global, and investment opportunities in Scotland and Germany, especially in light of Brexit.

New entrants to the UK serviced apartment market discussed their initial experiences, around speedy expansion, entering as an overseas operator and harnessing technology for growth.

Further discussion involved the position in the US market, taking on the OTAs, homestays and the sharing economy, the need for engaging content and how the internet has levelled the playing field. A panel of final year hospitality students gave their own tips, and leaders of other industries gave their own advice on consistency, understanding the customer, duty of care and reinvention.

Organiser Piers Brown opened the event, confirming the sector has now ‘come of age’.
