European aparthotel brand Zoku is looking to demolish a 1920s shoe manufacturing warehouse in Manchester, which it describes as having ‘no aesthetic, historical, evidential or communal value’, to build a new 14-storey, 125-apartment block similar to its aparthotel in Amsterdam with flexible, loft-style ‘home-office hybrid’ spaces.

Local businesses have expressed concern over the size of the development, although the application says designs have been altered to avoid overlooking neighbours. The proposals will be considered by Manchester council’s planning committee in the next few months.
