Terrorist attacks are hitting France’s tourism industry, with a 10% drop in overnight stays through July, especially among high-spending visitors from the US, Asia and the Persian Gulf states – although European travellers haven’t generally cancelled their plans.

Luxury accommodation has been the worst hit, while planned arrivals in August and September are down by about a fifth for France as a whole.

In response to the attacks, President Hollande has sent soldiers to patrol airports and Paris’s major tourist attractions, and there are regular security alerts across visitor centres and transportation.
