Research by the hotel data and market intelligence firm AM:PM has found that year-to-date new UK hotel rooms supply has passed 10,000 bedrooms, on track to reach its highest level since 2012.

Almost one-third of these are due to open in London, while Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow have added over 1,800 bedrooms so far this year alongside other openings across the UK.

Budget hotels have continued to account for well over 50% of new supply in 2016, but aparthotels and serviced apartments have now become the next strongest growth area, accounting for around 10% of total new supply this year, led by operators such as ASAP members Staycity, SACO and Skyline.
