According to Tourism Ireland, the number of TV and film locations in Ireland is one reason for double-digit increases in visitor arrivals from the US and Canada for the first six months of 2017, while in contrast UK arrivals in Ireland are down 6.4% – partly because of currency challenges from Brexit.

The tourism board is overhauling its UK marketing strategy towards the ‘culturally curious’ audience less impacted by currency fluctuations.

Ireland was one of the fastest-growing European destinations in 2016, with international arrivals increasing to more than 10 million, up 11%. UK travellers may view visits to Ireland and elsewhere in Europe, especially Mediterranean destinations, but Ireland is a cautionary tale to other European countries that UK travellers usually visit, but may be calculating the higher Euro cost.
