IKEA is in talks with developers to convert the Pirelli Tire Building in Connecticut, which it has owned since 2003,  into its first ‘shop ’n’ flop’ outside Sweden.

Part of the building was flattened when IKEA took it over, but the main tower remains. The potential new hotel may follow the style of the IKEA Hotell in Älmhult, southern Sweden, with minimalist interiors, flat-pack furniture, and a restaurant serving the brand’s famous in-store meatballs.
