The French government is preparing to challenge Airbnb and other sharing economy platforms, as well as e-commerce sites such as Google and Amazon, for what it sees as an “unacceptable” level of tax payments with a plan to be revealed in September.

Airbnb reportedly paid little over €90,000 in French taxes during 2016, even though France is its second-biggest market after the US; and while it collects and remits the tourism taxes levied by many French cities, nationally both France and Germany want a crackdown to be instigated by the European Commission this year.
