France, Germany and the UK top the first global Sustainable Tourism Index compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit, based across five categories – political and regulatory environment, environmental sustainability, socio-economic sustainability, economic sustainability, and growth in the travel and tourism industry.

France and Germany tie first for the robustness of their tourism sustainability action plans, while France and the UK top the list for rigorous tourism laws. China is the leader on growth in the overall tourism industry, indicating  where efforts should be directed in order to make the biggest global impact on sustainability.
