Zappos, the Amazon-owned online footwear and clothing retailer, has announced its possible entry into hotels, although didn’t officially announce a Zappos hotel brand.

In 2012, Zappos launched the Downtown Project aimed at revitalising a derelict part of Las Vegas into a new incubator of entrepreneurship, co-living, and co-working, including two hotels. This could be a blueprint for how Zappos approaches its hotels in the future, especially with co-living and co-working concepts potentially the next big hospitality trend.

Other new hotel brands are being forged from existing brands outside the hotel space, including Lagerfeld Hotels by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, following an inclination by established non-hotel brands with committed customers and fans to consider the hospitality space.
