The British Hospitality Association (BHA) yesterday told 450 delegates at the Master Innholders General Managers’ Conference 2017 that the Brexit vote has “altered the future of the sector”, and that restricting access by foreign workers to the UK will “substantially threaten” the industry.

Replacing foreign nationals with British workers might not be simple, since some areas of the UK are already close to full employment. The point was made that those within the industry need to confirm numbers of their own EU employees – currently estimated at around 15% of the total 4.5million hospitality workers in the UK.

Discussion also focused on future promotion among school age students between the ages of 13 and 16, and on reducing the level of VAT across the hospitality sector.
