Revised plans have been given the go-ahead to knock down one of Dublin’s most famous pubs, Scruffy Murphy’s,  to make way for the construction of an aparthotel despite locals’ objections.

The original 36 suites will be reduced with the loss of one of the six floors, and the development will include restaurant, bar and café on the ground floor. It was considered an acceptable plan given the city centre location and previous use, the shortage of tourist accommodation in the city, and the fact that the building is currently empty and in poor repair.
