Domestic and international usage of Airbnb increased in 2016 compared with 2015, up 82% in 2016 to more than 5.4 million, more than the combined sum of all guests in the years since Airbnb launched in Spain.

2.8 million residents of Spain used Airbnb in 2016, up 100%.

Barcelona saw a 40% increase, but earlier this month the city rejected an offer by Airbnb to limit the number of rentals available via non-professional landlords and a promise around sharing information about professional landlords to assist the collection of tourist tax. As of Q2 2016, more than 25% Spain’s population used sharing economy services.
