CBRE Hotels have released a report outlining the competition posed by Airbnb to traditional hospitality across the US, by reflecting the spend across 12 months to September 2015, which was $2.4bn, and compiling results in an Airbnb ‘Competition Index’.

Comparisons include room price, scale and activity across different states, and identified New York at greatest risk risk from the growth of Airbnb. Overall this might also impact on future traditional hotel construction – despite the finding that Airbnb room rates average around 25% higher than equivalent hotels.
