Airbnb is to embark on programme to gather more information about the hosts of its 2.5 million listings around the world, starting in November.

The aim is to clarify what is exactly involved in a host’s listing, so guests have a better idea of what to expect when they arrive at a property; whether that’s a room in the host’s own home, or somewhere managed by a local property manager, and who will be overseeing a guest’s stay with or without social interaction.

Bed & Breakfast properties have traditionally had their own designation on Airbnb, but now listings will also note if the property is a hostel, lodge, serviced apartment or boutique hotel.
