It has been rumoured that Airbnb is within a week of trialling a new select service targeting higher-paying travellers who haven’t yet tried the sharing platform due to uncertainty around luxury and standards.

Airbnb inspectors will personally examine a select band of hosts’ homes to ensure they meet quality standards found in hotels such as new bed linens, plush towels and single-use toiletries, working appliances and a host’s commitment to stock bottled water and a selection of teas and coffee. Premium properties meeting these standards will be highlighted on a featured section of Airbnb’s website and mobile apps.

This is the first time premium rooms will be packaged into a distinct product with official inspections and incentives for participants.

The service is said to be rolled out this year, although Airbnb have declined to comment officially.
