Airbnb has created its own new typeface called Cereal, to bring all of its platforms together visually and to give users a scalable font that works equally on the largest billboards and low-res phones.

The company worked with designers to produce a font that was “playful, open, and simple  .. with a touch of quirk”. The result references both the ‘bnb’ part of the name, and the penniless time which saw the founders living on breakfast cereal while setting up Airbnb.

The new typeface doesn’t currently support all languages but in the future should work for Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek and others.
