In the face of opposition from the hotel industry, which accuses Airbnb of facilitating illegal hotels, a partnership between Airbnb and apartment developer Niido is preparing to open a 324-unit apartment complex specifically designed for tenants who want to sublease their units to short-term guests.
The partnership Niido Powered by Airbnb will debut in early 2018 near Orlando, Fla,. with three more complexes planned by the end of the year. The annual lease enables tenants to rent their units out for up to 180 days a year, splitting rental revenue 75%:25% between the tenant and the landlord.
Airbnb’s 4 million-plus worldwide listings are more than triple those of the world’s largest hotel company, Marriott International.
