This article by Joseph DiTomaso, co-founder and CEO of AllTheRooms, discusses whether Airbnb’s “Instant Book” feature, which allows users to secure their vacation home or apartment with just one click, could lead to travel market domination.

Though the pace at which listings are being added to Airbnb has slowed down, the growth in instantly bookable units has increased in 2017 to over 1.6 million. AllTheRooms data shows that the volume of instantly bookable inventory is growing at three times the pace of the total inventory showing that vacation rental owners are increasingly switching that way. Airbnb will then become more like an OTA, also opening a pathway for hotels to list their properties on the platform, and if it ranks instant book inventory over the non-instant book inventory, more and more homeowners will take this route for better results.

The conclusion is that the instant book trend positions Airbnb to be potentially a real player against the more traditional incumbent OTAs like Expedia and Booking.com.
