A survey of 1,500 landlords across the UK conducted by the Residential Landlords’ Association has shown that 7% are now using Airbnb or similar sites to offer their properties as short term holiday lets, with 36% of the respondents offering holiday lets stating that Section 24 mortgage interest relief restrictions was the direct cause.

The number of London landlords with multiple listings on Airbnb increased by 75% between February 2016 and March 2017.

The RLA concludes that if this trend was consistent throughout the whole Property Redress Scheme, potentially almost 135,000 homes have been taken out of the housing stock as main residences, and is calling on the Government to scrap the mortgage interest relief changes.
